7 Style Tips to Brighten Your Apartment

Apartment Living Hacks

Spending a lot of time at home in your apartment these days? Aren’t we all! Chances are your space is feeling run of the mill to you, at this point, and maybe just a bit on the drab side. With just a few small changes, you can take your apartment from blah to bam!

The following décor ideas will brighten up your space and make it that much more pleasant to be in for the long term. Are you not a designer at heart? Not a problem! These ideas are all easy to execute with items you may already have around the apartment, as well, and won’t put a big dent in your wallet.

1. New Paint

Nothing brightens a space like a new coat of paint. Choose from fun, Spring colors to really bring in the sun. Lighter shades reflect more light, of course, so stay away from neutrals and darker shades if your goal is to brighten things up. Live in an apartment near the coast? Try some fun beach colors to immerse yourself in beach living.

2. Organize!

Reorganizing your area can free up more space, but it can also shake loose some of the energy, as well. Clear away any surfaces that are cluttered to create more open spaces around the room. All these newly bare spaces will add light and brightness to your apartment… and make getting around that much easier.

3. Rearrange the Furniture

Sometimes something as simple as repositioning your couch can bring new brightness and energy to a space. Adherents of Feng Shui have long insisted that these things matter, but you don’t need to be an expert in an ancient art to get the benefits. Take some time to consider how you move through a room, and move things to accommodate these movements and create more open space.

4. Have the Kids Decorate

Have some bored kids at home? Bring them in on an art project to brighten up your apartment. If you’re worried about your walls, just pin up a large section of craft paper and let the kids start decorating. If you have older children, let them take it a step further and paint their own mural in a space.

5. Add in Colorful Accents

Colorful rugs, pillows and throws can all add a bit of cheer to your apartment. If you’re tired of looking at the same old same old in your space, introducing one or two bright splotches of color with these accessories is an easy and affordable way to brighten things up. Throw a few brightly colored and patterned pillows onto the couch or introduce a patterned area rug to the dining room. These are the small touches that count and truly transform a space.

6. Introduce More Lights and Mirrors

Cleverly placed mirrors and lights not only brighten a space, but can make it feel bigger, as well. Arrange large mirrors on empty walls to add square footage and set bright white lights around the room to brighten things even on gloomy days.

7. Lighten the Load on Your Windows

While an elaborate window treatment can look quite elegant, it’s not the best way to make a room feel bright and fun. If you have heavier window treatments, consider switching them out for a lightweight option. Light Iinens are a good option or you can get rid of the fabric altogether and install some light bamboo shades. As with any of the options here, the lighter the colors, too, the better!

Creating a bright and cheery space is one of the best ways to improve your mood. These tips are quick, easy, and affordable ways to do just that.
