Best Pets When Living Near Tampa Bay

Tips for Pet Owners

Living in a Tampa Bay apartment brings with it a lot of benefits, including fresh sea air and beach fun. One thing that you can add to your life to make it that much sweeter is the presence of a pet. What pets work best when living in Tampa Bay? If you live in Tampa, you may well live in a pet-friendly apartment, so we’ve compiled a list of animals that work well for both beach and apartment living.

Dogs that Love Water

While many dogs love the water, there are certain breeds that are just made for it. Water dogs such as Retrievers, Portuguese Water Dogs, and Standard Poodles (!) can bring a lot of joy and play to a beach setting, enjoying the water as much as you do. Make sure to look for a beach that allows dogs, too, since some places may limit Fido’s access. Davis Island Dog Beach is one great local option.

Small Dogs are Great for Apartments

Small dogs such as a Chihuahua or Yorkie can bring companionship without the outsized management issues of a bigger dog. If you have a busy schedule, don’t have extensive dog training skills, or just like smaller breeds, these little guys can be a great pet for Tampa Bay living. Watch out for their assertiveness, though! Little pups can think they’re just as big as a Great Dane. You’ll want to look out for this if you plan on visiting any Tampa Bay dog parks.

Cat

Self-contained, independent, and easy to care for, cats are still a reliable go-to for many pet lovers. If you live in an apartment, cats can provide companionship without too much hassle, too. Consider looking for a rescue from a local Tampa shelter, as well.

Sharing your Tampa living with a pet is a great way to bring extra joy to your beach life. What animals do you share Tampa Bay with? Let us know in the comments below.
